Oscar Wilde is an icon everywhere you go
Another short post matching the slumber of heat — you know, the type of bursting sunshine tanning you within seconds. Anyway, this time, two years ago, I was surprised with a landmark honouring one of my all-time favourite writers — Oscar Wilde. It was unlike anything I’ve seen before.
Unlike most statues I’ve come across (and I’ve seen A LOT,) this one had colour. Four colours, contrasting yet complimenting, and oh so typical of Oscar Wilde. Pink, green, blue and black.
His deep jade jacket travelled in from Canada, his fuchsia pink thulite shirt and his blue pearl granite trousers from Norway. His black, aglet bronzed shoes are made from Indian Charnokite. His outfit shipped in from all four corners of the world to construct this mesmerising statue.
Danny Osborne created this masterpiece in 1997, carefully and deliberating slicing the statue together to best commemorate the legend of Oscar Wilde — his flair, fashion and style. Costing IR£45,000, when you see it, you’ll say every penny is worth it. Especially to see that smug look on Wilde’s face.
If you’re in Dublin — go see the Oscar Wilde Memorial Sculpture.
